Where a pedigree longhorn herd graze peacefully behind a lovely tearoom

Description

Logie Steading, Forres, Moray, IV36 2QN

In spring sunshine we drove down a daffodil flanked drive to the beautiful honey coloured buildings of Logie Steading.   Nessie’s stirred from her sleep in the back of the car and then wandered off with Ann to make friends  with a few Pedigree Longhorn –  a very old and native British breed of cattle that graze the pasture of the estate.  Believe me – the name ‘longhorn’ is apposite!   Having had  a bit of a leg stretch Nessie jumped back into the car Nessie while Ann and I set off  explore the tearoom.

En route our attention was distracted a garden centre, a bookshop,  a clothes shop and a painted sheep.     All of these, with the exception of the sheep perhaps, independently owned businesses with the  ‘Café at Logie Steading’ being owned and run by Mags Cairns and her husband Robbie.   It makes for a wonderful day out – who can resist as wander around a couple of shops and then a bite to eat?  Not us that’s for sure.

We dithered a bit with which table to sit at but in the end I persuaded Ann to join me at table 9 as I liked the table cloth covered in Highland Coos.   As it was lunchtime we gave the cake and our waist lines a short break and instead tucked into a delicious home made sweet potato soup – just spiced enough to soften the effects of a rather chilly April day.    We followed this with a cup of specially created  ‘Logie blend’ coffee made by the Inverness Roasting company.

The café offers a wide range of dietary choices including vegan, gluten free and vegetarian options in which ranges from breakfast rolls to cake coffee and daily specials alongside everyday favourites.  The café is open 7 days a week between 10am – 5pm
