Alllow yourself to fall under the spell of the Scottish Deli

Enter Aladdin’s Cave …
As you place your hand on the round metal knob of the old wooden door to the Scottish Deli you can sense the magic that lies within. Shelves of freshly-baked bread and local grown fruit. Orzo pasta and tahini jostling with Serrano ham, fine wines and locally-made craft beers. Nestled amongst the shelves of this award-winning, speciality food shop are small tables to sit and enjoy a flat white and freshly-made carrot cake. Or you can order a sandwich to take down to your picnic spot on the banks of the River Tay.
Busily stacking the shelves and advising customers in this thriving Aladdin’s cave are Simon, Sarah, Jane and their team. It is nearly nine years since they happened upon the Deli and transformed it from its rather sorry, previous state into the wondrous place it is today.
“It’s been a massive adventure” says Simon “we have put ourselves into the business. We have always been around food, we love food, eating well and thinking about food and its provenance. We are passionate about what we do.”
Their passion includes promoting and selling locally-made produce. They proudly serve coffee roasted by Glen Lyon Roasters in nearby Aberfeldy, and they sell cold pressed oils from Ferneyfold Farm in nearby Madderty and craft beer made at Strathbraan Brewery just seven miles up the road.
As ever we are at our happiest as we tuck into our cake and gently stir our spoons around our teacups. As we do so, we listen to their whispered magic spell …
Take a beautiful old building
Stir in quantities of passion for all things food
Add a love of local
And cook for long hours without resting
Add a pinch of magic
And serve with a smile
